The Ochiba koi originated in the mid-90s through the crossbreeding of a Chagoi koi, resembling a light brown wild carp, and a Soragoi koi, characterized by its grey-blue single-colored appearance. This breeding yielded a koi exhibiting the grey-blue hue of the Soragoi, embellished with a pattern reminiscent of the brown coloration of the Chagoi.
