Shusui (pronounced SHOO-soo-EE) koi are characterized by their distinctive grey-blue coloration, accentuated by striking red patterns along the sides of the fish, as well as on the cheeks and fins. Unlike other koi varieties, Shusui koi possess scales only along a row flanking each side of the dorsal fin, lending them a unique appearance.

Notably, Shusui koi hold significant historical value in the world of koi, as they pioneered the scaleless variety of ornamental carp. Over time, this scale type has evolved into a diverse range of over a hundred different varieties, contributing to the rich tapestry of koi breeds.
