The Asagi stands out with its distinctive shade of blue, reflecting its Japanese name meaning indigo or pale blue. Upon closer inspection, its fully scaled body reveals a captivating net-like pattern formed by meticulously arranged scales, resembling a work of art. These non-metallic scales range from pale blue to dark blue, boasting a defined diamond shape that extends from the back of the koi to its head.

The head of the Asagi typically displays a white or very pale blue hue, complemented by red coloration on the cheeks that extends along the belly to the tail. Notably, this red coloration should not encroach above the lateral line where it intersects with the scale pattern. The pectoral fins also feature striking red hues, while the underbelly may exhibit a pristine white coloration. The Asagi's tail may vary in color, appearing either clear or red.
